Meeting with Minister of Health (2015) to discuss policy and implementation issues (2015)

In April 2015, VISA sent a mail to the Minister of Health and Quality of Life, Mr Anil Gayan, to expose some policy issues on tobacco control which required urgent attention. The issues were:

  • Delay in the introduction of a new set of images on cigarette packs;
  • Delay in conducting the International Tobacco Control (ITC) survey;
  • Opening of waterpipe bars;
  • Smoking in nightclubs;
  • Pending amendments to the tobacco regulations; and
  • Tax on tobacco products.

VISA requested a meeting with the Minister to discuss these issues. On 30 July, 2015, the Minister received the President of VISA and its Honorary Member, Mrs Veronique Leclezio. A brief was submitted to the Minister on the policy and implementation issues raised during the meeting.
